Built Environment

Over the last decade, significant transformations have occurred in the delivery, design and materials development of building materials. The College of Engineering and Architecture is working to develop novel solutions for building materials, design and constructability, providing innovative approaches to benefit the public by pioneering changes to the design and construction of the built environment. With new opportunities for collaborative research, the College is working to enhance value, durability, aesthetics and environmental sustainability of building materials.

Washington State University and the College of Engineering and Architecture is uniquely positioned with nationally recognized programs in architecture, construction management, civil engineering, wood engineering, materials discovery and processing, and forming and machining.  Many of our units have strong, individual programs in teaching, research and outreach.

Strategies for Tomorrow: Re-engineering for a Sustainable Built Environment

Imagine one day living in a community based on the precepts of sustainability. We would drive less, reducing gasoline consumption. We would walk more, improving our health. And all of our structures would be built of sustainable, energy-efficient materials. Visit this site to see as video presentation of WSU's Michael Wolcott, PhD, who advocates a major shift in the way we think about designing the buildings and communities where we live and work.
